There are three prizes offered for submitted abstracts during FIS/HIS International 2022:
The Journal of Medical Microbiology poster prize
The Infection Prevention In Practice (IPIP) poster prize
The Infectious Disease Futures and Infection Science Award
Journal of Medical Microbiology poster prize
Journal of Medical Microbiology will be offering a prize to the poster that presents particularly compelling or novel research in the fields of medical, dental and veterinary microbiology, and infectious diseases. We welcome everything from laboratory research to clinical trials, including bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology. The winner will receive a cash prize and certificate, and will be invited to submit their research to a Microbiology Society journal – publishing open access with no fee.
All abstracts will be considered for the Journal of Medical Microbiology poster prize
IPIP poster prize
Infection Prevention in Practice (IPIP) is the gold open access journal of the Healthcare Infection Society, and provides a comprehensive fully open access resource for all those working in the field of prevention and treatment of healthcare-associated infections worldwide.
The editors of IPIP will award a prize to three posters submitted to the FIS/HIS 2022 conference. The winners will be invited to submit an article to IPIP based on the poster, and open access fees will be fully waived for articles which are published. The IPIP Editorial Team will support and assist the winners with the submission of their article. During FIS/HIS International 2022 IPIP editors will look out for high-quality posters likely to translate to articles in the field of infection prevention and control that will influence clinical best practice and reduce the global burden of infection in healthcare.
All abstracts will be considered for the IPIP poster prize.
Infectious Disease Futures and Infection Science Award
The Microbiology Society Infection Science Award is an exchange scheme that facilitates the most promising trainee and early career presenters from FIS to present at the Microbiology Society Annual Conference Infection Forum in an effort to improve the exchange of ideas and the career development of early career researchers and trainee scientists and doctors.
Entering the competition
You should indicate during abstract submission if you are eligible and wish to be entered for the Infection Science Award.
Eligibility
All self-defining early career and trainee presenters are eligible for the scheme. As a guide, the Microbiology Society’s ECM Forum considers you an early career microbiologist if you’re an undergraduate or postgraduate student, or within five years of appointment to your first position after your highest degree earned. However, if this doesn’t fit your situation and you consider yourself an early career researcher, you are welcome to join.
Entrants are required to be a member of a FIS organising society*
*FIS organising societies include: the British Infection Association (BIA), Healthcare Infection Society
(HIS), and Microbiology Society.
Selection of awardees
A judging panel will attend the session to judge the shortlisted entrants and select the awardees for announcement in the weeks following FIS/HIS 2022. The judges will focus on scientific content and communication and criteria related to the translation potential of research outlined in presentations.
Award amount
The awardees will be offered a fixed bursary to attend the Microbiology Society Annual Conference 2023 and invited to submit a short publication to Access Microbiology.
